Summary of peak stages and discharges ABSTRACT Extreme flooding occurred in April 1983 in southern Mississippi and southeastern Louisiana. The floods resulted from a near-stationary cold front, which moved slowly across Louisiana and Mississippi. Flood heights and discharges of many streams exceeded previously known maximums of record, and for many the recurrence interval of peak discharge exceeded 100 years. Combined flood damages for both States totaled in the hundreds of millions of dollars. ![]() LizardTech's Djvu plug-in is needed to view these reports.
